Home Lab: (though not directly related to tools but various tools are used to have the lab running) ¬†ūüôā

My purpose of the home lab was to do something different from the regular tasks done at office. As all the vmware vsphere home lab users around the world, I too have started with white box custom built. My best bet was running ESXi on desktop configuration to start with before switching over to proper hardware server.

One of the most easiest tool is the ESXi Customerizer to customize the ESXi ISO.
There are multiple ways to do it with the help of powercli but customizer makes it easy.
I will follow with a blog on using powercli.

Intel CPU: “Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz”
Intel Motherboard: “DB85FL”
Ram: 24 GB
Hard disk: 1 TB
Nic : (on board): “Intel(R) I217-V Gigabit Network Device”

Prechecks :
Make sure that the Processor supports EPT so that nested esxi works fine. The best method to do is to check for the processor manual.
In case the vibs for the nic that you are planning to purchase is already there then it becomes very easy. Otherwise need to create it.
